You're a line on Big Tech's ledger — build your own thing instead

Mass layoffs accelerating disillusionment with the Big Tech companies lately. A long-time diet of dystopic sci-fi novels perhaps prepared me for marketing departments projecting well-wishes & caring as a facade to heartless, sociopathic behemoths.

My hope is that this disillusionment builds into a fracturing of power in the industry- more tech professionals banding together to build their own thing instead of aspiring to be cogs in Big Tech machinery, nor to be exploited by Big Investors. I'm sure many people who've recently had the rug pulled out from under them in tech are attempting that, and I encourage everyone to support bootstrapping tech professionals however you can.

Tangentially, I'd love to see the model of capital investment further decentralized as well. We have all of this tech that's connected us socially, it's time to take hold of that infrastructure and collectively shape our paths forward, diffuse the sway of Big Tech and their alliances making those decisions for us. You'll find decentralization is a common theme for me.

Big Tech is not the career goal to chase. It's a living, I'm not judging, just know that you'll never be more than a line on the expense side of their ledger that they'd be thrilled to remove if they think it won't impact the other side of the ledger.
