From solopreneur to cofounder: here's to next year's holiday party

Before the past few years, it had been a while since I had a consistent team, as a long-time solopreneur. I’d weave in and out of meeting-heavy roles... business analysis, design collaboration, iterative development, UAT and training... and with project work being what it is, interactions with the fascinating people I worked with came in fits and starts.

But leading a team across ever-morphing projects has put me in a different rhythm. I’ve been talking to the same people five days a week, much of my day — planning, explaining, negotiating, brokering peace. And a couple of times a year, I’ve flown to HQ to crowd around a whiteboard, get to know people beyond the tasks at hand, maybe even make it to the holiday party. “Oh right — this is what professional social bonds feel like.” It’s a little sad to have that come to an end as my tenure winds down.

Fortunately, the stars have aligned and I’m now starting a business with my two team members who are not only simpatico with my software-development ethos but also with my sense of humor and values. I spent a long time turning down offers of partnership, but the decision to kick off Codality was easy- our complementary strengths and we enjoy working with each other.

So here’s to Codality’s holiday party next year. And if we’re lucky, maybe Ryan Pace Sloan joins us — if someone hasn’t snatched him up as a developer before I can.
